Grand Teton National park

More than 300,000 acres of pristine wilderness awaits visitors to this Wyoming national park that was named after the highest summit in its Teton Mountain Range and has 200-plus miles of trails. Grand Teton National Park only included the Teton Mountains and six lakes when it was created back in 1929. It expanded throughout the years to include Jackson Hole National Monument, a 35,000-acre land donation from John D. Rockefeller Jr. and more federal property. The park's habitats are alpine, forests, sage brush and rivers, lakes and ponds with 61 species of mammals and 1,000-plus species of plants. Points of interest are the Snake River, Mount Moran, Jackson Lake, Grand Teton and Murie Ranch.

Arches National Park

This 36,359-acre Utah national park situated along the Colorado River features more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches including its most photographed Delicate Arch. Arches National Park's landscape has been forming and changing for millions of years. It was made a national park in 1971 being previously named a national monument in 1929. Points of interest are Delicate Arch, Wolfe Ranch, Courthouse Wash Panel, Elephant Butte, Courthouse Towers, The Organ, Fiery Furnace, Balanced Rock and Landscape Arch. The book "Desert Solitaire" was written by author Edward Abbey from his journals during his time as a park ranger.

Great Salt Lake

The largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere is located in Northern Utah and is about 75 miles long, but frequently oscillates. Great Salt Lake is what remains of the prehistoric 20,000-square-mile Lake Bonneville and is sometimes called "America's Dead Sea." The lake contains brine shrimp and its surrounding region is home to many birds and mammals. Antelope Island and Great Salt Lake state parks are situated on the body of water that is surrounded by pristine white sand beaches. Popular spots on the lake are Spiral Jetty, Black Rock, Great Salt Lake Marina, Kennecott Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve, Locomotive Springs and Bridger Bay Beach. The lake has a greater salinity than the ocean.
