Day 1: Wupatki National Monument - Sunset Crater Volcano - Grand Canyon East Rim

Introduction:

Grand Canyon South Rim

80 miles north of Flagstaff is the scenic Grand Canyon South Rim, the most popular side of the canyon. Receiving over 5 million visitors a year, the southern rim is the perfect spot to watch the sunrise over the Grand Canyon East Rim from Mather or Yaki Point. Or one can head over to Desert View Point to see the picturesque Watchtower, a historical recreation of an ancient tower that once stood over the canyon, and another pristine spot to receive a panoramic view of the canyon. There are a handful of hotels in Flagstaff or the nearby small town of Tusayan, but a trip from Las Vegas is manageable.

Tour Overview:

Our most diverse single-day excursion, the Grand Canyon Explorer combines prehistoric ruins with ancient lava fields and extinct volcanoes, topped off with jaw-dropping panoramas of the Grand Canyon from the South and East Rim. In the morning we'll take you to see the Wupatki and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monuments.

After lunch on the Navajo Reservation, enjoy the incredible views of the Grand Canyon from the East and South Rim, with free time in the afternoon for further exploration.

Our guides name was Mark and he was absolutely wonderful as a guide. He picked us up at exactly 8:30 am as he stated in our phone conversation. We headed out to the San Francisco volcano range. He explained how and when the volcano erupt ed, showed us how the vegetation had changed from the lava flow. We then headed to the Navaho Reservation, explaining the different ways of life on the reservation, had lunch at the outpost, had time to visit the shops before heading to the Grand Canyon. Mark was so pleasant and nice and continued telling us how important it was to stay dehydrated and offered us water to drink on the way. Once we arrived at the canyon, he showed us every plant, all the different trees and their uses during the past ages as the Indians and Spanish existed in the desert of Arizona. It was a perfect trip, very knowledgeable and enjoyable. Mark made this trip so special and I would recommend him to anyone booking a day trip. He is an awesome person!!!!
