Introduction:

Hoodoos

Hoodoos take millions of years to form and stand 5 to 7 meters tall. Each hoodoo is a sandstone pillar resting on a thick base of shale that is capped by a large stone. Hoodoos are very fragile and can erode completely if their capstone is dislodged. The protected Hoodoos site is a guaranteed spot to see Hoodoos but smaller versions of these sandstone giants can be found all over the Badlands. The Hoodoos make a great stop on the way to the Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site in East Coulee.

Bow Falls

Bow Falls is a major waterfall on the Bow River, Alberta just before the junction of it and the Spray River. They are located near the Banff Springs Hotel and golf course on the left-hand side of River Road.

The falls are within walking distance of both Banff and the Banff Springs Hotel, so they are visited by many tourists despite their relatively small size.

Introduction:

Drumheller

There is a strange-shaped stone pillar attraction at the Surprise Point of the Bow River Valley in the northeast of Banff Town, also known as "Devil's Rock", is a stone pillar formed by limestone erosion from thousands of years of weathering and rain. Surrounded by lush forest and beautiful mountains, the hoodoos peak out of the trees, adding uniqueness to the scenery. The rugged shape and structure of each hoodoo seems to have a mind of its own.

Hoodoos

Hoodoos take millions of years to form and stand 5 to 7 meters tall. Each hoodoo is a sandstone pillar resting on a thick base of shale that is capped by a large stone. Hoodoos are very fragile and can erode completely if their capstone is dislodged. Stand on the edge of this huge u-shaped canyon and survey the beauty and mystery of the badlands. The maroon-striped canyon walls reveal the layers of time down to the Cretaceous period when dinosaurs roamed a lush sub-tropical habitat some 70 million years ago. For most, the next stop [Royal Tyrrell Museum] brings the rich fossils found throughout the badlands to life. You're in the right place if you love to see the world’s largest dinosaur. Other nearby highlights are found along the [Hoodoo Trail] (Highway 10).
