Day 1: Calgary - Lake Minnewanka - Johnston Canyon - Lake Louise – Calgary

Introduction:

Lake Louise

Lake Louise is a hamlet in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, known for its turquoise, glacier-fed lake ringed by high peaks and overlooked by a stately chateau. Hiking trails wind up to the Lake Agnes Tea House for bird's-eye views. There's a canoe dock in summer, and a skating rink on the frozen lake in winter. The Lake Louise Ski Resort features a wildlife interpretive center at the top of a gondola.

Tour Overview:

In the morning, we will first stop by [Two Jack Lake] for photo taking then head to [Lake Minnewanka]. During winter, when water freezes and the bacteria feed expels methane gas, you may see the magical phenomena of icy bubbles at Lake Minnewanka.

[Johnston Canyon] Banff National Park's most popular hiking destination takes you into the spectacular frozen waterfalls. See the impressive lower falls and walk through a tunnel to get even closer to the falls. Enjoy Ice Walk (Free borrow of Rivet crampons) in the amazing Johnston Canyon.

In the afternoon, the itinerary continues with a search for another enchanting wonderland in the Rocky Mountains: [Lake Louise]. Nestled against the [Victoria Glacier], every year from January to April (subject to official opening dates), the grand Ice Magic Festival takes place here. Artists and ice enthusiasts from around the world gather to create a beautiful fairytale world through magnificent ice sculptures. Situated by the lakeshore, [the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise] resembles a scene from a painting, with snow-capped mountains and the icy lake reflecting each other. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the fun activity of snowshoeing (complimentary use snowshoe). This activity is weather-dependent and depends on the condition of the frozen lake. Walk on the soft, fluffy snow and experience the magic of ice and snow up close.

Recommended activities for enriching the trip in the Lake Louise area (Choose max. 2 activities):

The world-famous Fairmont Chateau Afternoon Tea (additional fees) - Enjoy charming pastries, tea sandwiches, and tasty desserts while capturing snowy white fairytale-like Lake Louise.

Snow shoeing (Free) Borrow snowshoes to step in the soft snow and have fun! **This activity depends on the weather and the icing conditions of the lake**

Enjoy a Horse Sleigh Ride (additional fees) - A Classic old-fashioned way for the whole family to ride on the shores of Lake Louise.

Great experience
We had a well-paced day with three stops at the top area attractions (Johnston canyon, lake Louise, and lake moraine). Good balance of lightly guided and free to explore. Vehicle was a large van with plenty of space for our party of four. The day was about 11 hours door to door.

Great Experience!
What a beautiful part of the country and this day trip takes you to the main parts! Communication was great as soon as we booked. Charlie went above and beyond to ensure we had our add on (even though I was late with the request). Our tour guide, Michael, was amazing! He sent us a message in the morning to ensure we had an easy pick up. He was very professional and friendly throughout the trip and was happy to answer any questions we had. He also made us laugh a lot! I thought the whole experience was good value for money.

Nice experience
This is our first time doing a tour during winter(early spring) and it was a nice experience. The scenery at Johnston Canyon is beautiful & the Lake (Lake Louise) covered with ice a new experience and having the Fairmont as you background adds to the beauty. Our tour guide Michael was nice and informative.

Snow and ice
Lake Louise covered in snow/ice. Guides Mitch and Penelope saints when three "guests" returned 20 minutes late from an excursion.
