Day 1: Calgary-Bow Lake- Icefield Avenue - Columbia Icefield - Jasper
Banff
Banff National Park is Canada's oldest national park and was established in 1885. Located in the Rocky Mountains, 110–180 kilometres (68–112 mi) west of Calgary in the province of Alberta, Banff encompasses 6,641 square kilometres (2,564 sq mi) of mountainous terrain, with many glaciers and ice fields, dense coniferous forest, and alpine landscapes. The Icefields Parkway extends from Lake Louise, connecting to Jasper National Park in the north. Provincial forests and Yoho National Park are neighbours to the west, while Kootenay National Park is located to the south and Kananaskis Country to the southeast. The main commercial centre of the park is the town of Banff, in the Bow River valley.
Columbia Icefield
The Columbia Icefield is the largest ice field in the Rocky Mountains. Located in the Canadian Rockies astride the Continental Divide along the border of British Columbia and Alberta, Canada, the ice field lies partly in the northwestern tip of Banff National Park and partly in the southern end of Jasper National Park.
Bow Lake
Bow Lake is a small lake in western Alberta, Canada. It is located on the Bow River, in the Canadian Rockies, at an altitude of 1920 m. The lake lies south of the Bow Summit, east of the Waputik Range and west of the Dolomite Pass, Dolomite Peak and Cirque Peak.
Jasper
Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies comprises a vast wilderness area of Alberta province defined by glaciers, lakes and peaks like 11,033-ft.-high Mt. Edith Cavell. The Icefields Parkway, a road from the town of Jasper, passes subalpine forest and the immense Columbia Icefield. Outdoor activities like hiking, camping and skiing are popular. Native wildlife includes elk, moose, bighorn sheep and bears.
Along the way, we looked at [Crowfoot Mt.], stopped at [Bow Lake], and [Num-Ti-Jah Inn] guarded by the lake, telling the story of the legendary guide Jimmy Thompson family of the Rocky Mountains. (Tour time: 30 minutes) The next road trip is No. 93 Icefield Avenue, which is rated by the National Geographic Magazine as "Beautiful Landscape Road in North America". Alpine meadows, forest lakes, snow-capped mountains and waterfalls are like a temple that you can worship. [Bingyuan Center Scenery Cafeteria]-Everything is in front of you. Dining in the unique Icefield Centre Scenery Cafeteria is undoubtedly a rare trip to commemorate. (Tour time: 60 minutes) Over millions of years of nature, the [Columbia Ice Field] has been achieved. Take the Snow Coach Snow Coach (Optional) and walk on the Athabasca Glacier to experience the temperature of snow and ice. (Visit time: 150 minutes)
Admire the Athabasca Falls formed by melting snow and ice (Tour time: 30 minutes)
Then Drive to Jasper Town, the heart and soul of the park, and check-in the hotel.
Recommended for evening free activities: Have a glass of wine in Jasper Brewing Co. in the town at night, and immerse yourself in the relaxed atmosphere of western North America.
Columbia Ice Field
Day 2: Jasper - Maligne Lake - Calgary
Medicine Lake
Medicine Lake, also known as “the lake that disappears” is located 20 km southeast of the town of Jasper. Medicine lake is a 7 km long narrow lake that is formed by the Maligne River. Interesting enough, the lake loses water as it flows. Why is that you may ask? When the water is on its way to merge with the Athabasca river, it reaches the medicine lake area, and pools up to form the Lake over the largest inaccessible limestone cave system.
Maligne Lake
22km long, the majestic Maligne Lake is the second-largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies. While its azure-blue waters can be cold for swimming, there are plenty of other activities to do in the Maligne Valley including hiking Bald and Opal Hills, biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and boat tours to Spirit Island. If you are feeling exceptionally adventurous, the 44km Skyline Trail begins at Maligne Lake and finishes near the town of Jasper. Make sure to bring your camera, it's one of the most photogenic places in Jasper National Park!
Pass through [Medicine Lake], and arrive at [Maligne Lake], choose to take [Maligne Lake Cruise (Optional)], and come to "Place where God meets" [Sprite Island] (Tour time: 90 minutes)
(The itinerary before May 30 or due to weather, the Marin Lake cruise is not open. The above itinerary will be replaced by: [Pyramid Lake], [Patricia Lake])
[Marine Canyon Maligne Canyon] is one of the most spectacular canyons in the Rocky Mountains. The canyon is formed by glacial erosion, showing different canyons. (Visit time: 30 minutes)
Lunch at a restaurant in the town of Jasper (Tour time: 60 minutes)
Leaving the town after the meal, heading down the icefield avenue, Rocky Mountain is still a wild animal world, elk, goats, even black bears, etc., inadvertently pass through the window. Stop [The Crossing] rest station along the way, return to Banff after a short rest.
After stopping at Banff Town, drive back to Calgary.
