Introduction:

Empire State Building

The quintessential symbol of New York City was the tallest building in the world for almost 40 years after the 1,250-foot Art Deco skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan was completed in 1931. The 103-story Empire State Building designed by William F. Lamb was designated one of the "Seven Wonders of the Modern World" by the American Society of Civil Engineers and came in first place of America's Favorite Architecture in a 2006-07 poll sponsored by the American Institute of Architects. It has observation decks on the 86th and 102nd floors as well as the New York Skyride simulator on its second floor. The U.S. National Historic Landmark is lit up in various colors with skylights near its top for special occasions. The stunning structure has been featured in countless films and television shows.

Times Square

Referred to as "The Center of the Universe" and "The Crossroads of the World," Times Square is the world's most popular tourist attraction welcoming more than 39 million people to the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan every year. Dozens of electronic signs and the Broadway Theatre District's bright lights illuminate the plaza where there's always excitement in the air and a buzz of activity amongst the collection of stores, restaurants, theaters, attractions and street performers. Times Square was originally called Longacre Square until the iconic newspaper "The New York Times" moved there in 1904.

Tour Overview:

Day 2: New York In-Depth City Tour

Introduction:

Wall Street

This .7-mile-long street running eight blocks from Broadway to South streets in Lower Manhattan is synonymous with New York's Financial District and big business in the United States. Wall Street was laid out in 1685 and was the site of many historic moments including the 1789 inauguration of President George Washington, 1792 Buttonwood Agreement creating the New York Stock Exchange and the 1929 Stock Market Crash. Points of interest are the New York Stock Exchange, Federal Hall National Memorial, Deutsche Bank, Federal Reserve Gold Vault, Trinity Church and the Charging Bull statue.

NYC Trinity Church

The Trinity Church located in Manhattan, New York, was built in 1846 and continues to be an operating and historical church. The Trinity Church had been in the works originally since 1696, when Governor Benjamin Fletcher approved the purchase of land (which is now lower Manhattan), for construction of a church. The first Trinity Church was built in 1698, and later perished in the Great New York City Fire of 1776, which destroyed nearly 500 buildings. The Trinity Church was rebuilt in 1788, but was torn down in 1839 after being weakened by snow storms. The third and current Trinity Church was finished in 1846 and was designed by architect Richard Upjohn. It was an example of Gothic architecture and has a cemetery on the premise, as well as a tower that contains 23 bell towers.

Statue of Liberty

This 305-foot tall iconic emblem of the United States and freedom was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and has welcomed immigrants to "The Land of Opportunity" for centuries on its perch on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The Statue of Liberty was given to the United States as a gift from France in 1896 because the two countries were allies during the American Revolution. Lady Liberty depicts the Roman Goddess of Freedom Libertas and the shackles on her feet represent oppression. The Neoclassical statue had to be separated into 350 pieces to be shipped to the United States. Don't forget to read the unforgettable Emma Lazarus poem engraved on the U.S. National Historic Landmark statue's base.

One World Trade Center

Also known as Freedom Tower, this 1,776-foot tall skyscraper is the tallest building in the United States and the main structure for the new World Trade Center complex. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks destroyed the original World Trade Center Twin Towers located south of the new site, a plan to rebuild in memoriam of the tragedy was developed and construction began in 2006 with steel from the original building placed in the base. The 104-story One World Trade Center designed by David M. Childs has office space, retail stores, restaurants and an observation deck. A bronze monument dedicated to the response of military special forces members after September 11 stands in front of the building.

Tour Overview:

In the morning, take a ride to Wall Street, have your photo taken with the Charging Bull, and walk along Wall Street starting at the Trinity Church. Take a harbor cruise to see the Statue of Liberty and after which, see the One World Trade Center. Free time at the Chelsea Market, where you can enjoy your lunch as well. Then head to "The Vessel". It is a structure and landmark which was built as part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project in Manhattan. Opened on March 15, 2019 after a two-year construction,it is designed by the British designer Thomas Heatherwick. The elaborate honeycomb-like structure rises 16 stories and consists of 154 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, and 80 landings for visitors to climb. Vessel is the main feature of the Hudson Yards Public Square. Its final cost is expected to be $200 million.
