Day 1: Secret Lagoon
Iceland
Iceland is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic, with a population of 360,390 and an area of 103,000 km2 (40,000 sq mi), making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe. The capital and largest city is Reykjavík, with Reykjavík and the surrounding areas in the southwest of the country being home to over two-thirds of the population. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains, and glaciers, and many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate, despite a high latitude almost entirely outside the Arctic Circle. Its high latitude and marine influence keep summers chilly, with most of the archipelago having a tundra climate.
Secret Lagoon
The Secret Lagoon is a man-made hot spring of natural resources located at Hverahólmi, the geothermal area next to the village of Flúðir in southern Iceland. It is the oldest pool in the country, and one of the most popular for locals and tourists alike.
Gullfoss waterfall
Gullfoss is a waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in southwest Iceland.
Spend the day exploring some of Iceland's most iconic sights and reward yourself with a soak in the magical geothermal waters of the Secret Lagoon.
We start the day with a trip to Þingvellir National Park, the birthplace of Iceland's Viking-age parliament and a site of great geological wonder—Iceland's only UNESCO World Heritage site on the mainland. Next we visit Gullfoss, one of Iceland's most powerful and picturesque waterfalls, before heading to Geysir, the home of Iceland's most famous hot springs and other geothermal features, including a geyser that erupts every 7 to 10 minutes.
At the end of the day we'll treat ourselves to the thermal waters of the Secret Lagoon, an open-air pool fed by a nearby hot spring and renowned among locals as a magical retreat set against stunning natural surroundings.
