Day 2: San Francisco - Sacramento - Lake Tahoe - Reno

Introduction:

Fisherman's Wharf

This San Francisco tourist hot spot is the perfect place to watch fisherman working on their boats, dine on fresh local seafood and fish, do some unique shopping and observe playful sea lions on nearby rocks. Located on the city's northern waterfront, Fisherman's Wharf grew rapidly in population during the 1800s thanks to the California Gold Rush and drew many Italian fisherman to its shores. Pier 39, Aquarium of the Bay, Cannery Shopping Center, Ripley's Believe It or Not!, Ghirardelli Square and San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park are just some of the many places to visit here.

Lombard Street

Tourists flock to see vehicles drive on San Francisco's most famous street that has a speed limit of just five miles per hour and eight hairpin turns in a one-block portion. While the steep windy roadway is sometimes called "The Crookedest Street in the World, it's not actually. However, it is a sight to see in the City by the Bay. Homes used in the "Real World: San Francisco" and Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo" are located on Lombard Street.

Sacramento

California's capital city lies at the junction of the Sacramento and American rivers and consists of a mix of modern skyscrapers and historic structures. Sacramento started when John Sutter Sr. created Sutter's Fort in 1839 and the area slowly grew until the California Gold Rush in 1848 brought droves to the region. The city was incorporated in 1850 using the name of the nearby Sacramento River. Sacramento highlights include the Tower Bridge, Old Sacramento, State Capitol, Sutter's Fort, Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and City Historic Cemetery.

Lake Tahoe

The scenic clear blue lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range within the states of California and Nevada is North America's largest alpine lake and the second deepest in the United States. Many visitors come to Lake Tahoe for water sports, beach activities, skiing, hiking and bicycling. There are gambling establishments on the Nevada side of the lake that is surrounded by mountains and formed approximately two million years ago. Popular attractions are Emerald Bay, Cave Rock Tunnel, Secret Beach, Tahoe Treetop Adventure Park, Ehrman Mansion, Vikingsholm Castle, Tahoe Tessie's Lake Tahoe Monster Museum and Tahoe Amusement Park. National newspaper "USA Today" named Lake Tahoe "America's Best Lake" in 2012.

If extreme sports isn't your thing, the four-lane bridge has pedestrian walkways with views of the river and the cliffs, with the Blue Lakes, a park and two golf courses in the distance.

Shoshone Falls

Introduction:

Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park is an American national park located in southwestern Utah. The major feature of the park is Bryce Canyon, which despite its name, is not a canyon, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. Bryce is distinctive due to geological structures called hoodoos, formed by frost weathering and stream erosion of the river and lake bed sedimentary rocks. The red, orange, and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views for park visitors. Bryce Canyon National Park is much smaller, and sits at a much higher elevation than nearby Zion National Park. The rim at Bryce varies from 8,000 to 9,000 feet (2,400 to 2,700 m).

Antelope Canyon

The popular prismatic slot canyon is located on Navajo Native American land near Page, Arizona and is divided into upper and lower sections. Antelope Canyon was shaped by rainwater erosion of Navajo Sandstone and is only accessible through a guided tour. Often referred to as Corkscrew Canyon, this beautiful natural attraction features a rainbow of colors making it a favorite locations for photographers.

Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is the meander of the Colorado River, located near the town of Page, Arizona, named after its Horseshoe shape. It is located in the Glen Canyon Recreational Area, 5 miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. There are not many tours that you get to visit so many sites. It is exhausting but we'll worth it.

Our family of three was on this tour in August 2017, and we are very happy that we went on it. It's very intense, with early starts and long bus rides but places we visited were worth it. We would like to commend our guide Chris and bus dri ver Jason for impeccable running of the tour. All aspects of it - transportation, food, activities, accommodation- were organized at high level. We liked the hotels except practical but rather 'tired' room in Reno and overly extravagant room in Las Vegas. Thanks to the company and all our fellow travelers for creating nice memories about this trip. The tour can definitely be recommended to everyone who wants to see the best places of this part of USA.

Great tour with many places visited and covered a lot in the allotted time... adequate time in all attractions... tour guide a real expert in his field looked after Australian passengers with good detail in a chinese dominated bus but that was not a problem or meant to be detrimental. Budget tour but you get plenty of value for money... hotels of very good standard and despite early starts to some days was a great trip to take.
