Day 1: San Francisco - Santa Cruz - Monterey - 17-Mile Drive - Carmel-by-the-Sea - San Francisco

Introduction:

Santa Cruz

This Northern California city's officials and businesses have challenged Huntington Beach's trademark of "Surf City USA" claiming it to be Santa Cruz's nickname. Established in 1866, Santa Cruz features Natural Bridges State Beach, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, University of California Santa Cruz, Town Clock Tower, Santa Cruz Surfing Museum, Mission Santa Cruz and De Laveaga Disc Golf Course. The city is situated on the north side of Monterey Bay and its Wharf offers a spot for fishing, watching nearby sea lions, shopping and dining.

17 Mile Drive

This scenic drive along California's Pacific Coastline features the world famous Pebble Beach golf course, beautiful residences and marvelous nature landmarks. Look for the Lone Cypress Tree, Bird Rock, Witch Tree and the Del Monte Forest. The famous route that originated in the 1880s with the construction of the Hotel Del Monte begins at Pacific Grove and ends at Carmel-by-the-Sea on the Monterey Peninsula.

Carmel

Monterey

The Central California coastal city and its surrounding area have attracted and inspired artists for decades including the likes of authors John Steinbeck and Robert Louis Stevenson, musician Frank Zappa, writer Josh Billings and painters Thomas Kinkade and Percy Gray. Monterey was founded in 1770 by Father Junipero Serra and explorer Gaspar de Portolà. It was the capital of the Alto California territory from 1767-70 and was home to California's first public library, theater, newspaper and public school. Popular city attractions are Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey Museum of Art, Monterey County Youth Museum, Colton Hall Museum, Path of History and Monterey State Historic Park.

Tour Overview:

Monterey is a rich and entertaining mix of wildlife, stunning coastal views, and important history. On its streets, you can walk in the steps of figures like Grapes of Wrath author John Steinbeck, who spent years living in and writing about this fascinating area.

After a pickup from a convenient hotel in San Francisco, you’ll be swept into a Pacific Coast wonderland. You’ll cruise along California State Route 1 toward Monterey and be entertained by the picturesque Pacific Ocean coastline. Grab a selfie with the Pacific Ocean as your backdrop!

Keep an eye out for the sea otters playing in the waters of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. This underwater park stretches along the coast from San Francisco to Cambria and is home to hundreds of species of marine mammals, birds, and fish.

In Monterey, you’ll have two hours of free time to explore. That’s plenty of time to visit the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. Or use the time to stroll out to Lovers’ Point or check out the many boutiques that line historic Cannery Row. Grab a fresh seafood lunch at Old Fisherman’s Wharf.

Back on your tour vehicle, you’ll be treated to more beauty on the 17-Mile Drive. This scenic road winds its way through the Del Monte Forest between magnificent homes, spectacular coastline, and Pebble Beach golf course. Catch a photo of the hardy Lone Cyprus Tree.

After our Pacific beach tour, you’ll experience the enchanting vibe of the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Check out the quaint shops on Ocean Avenue or get some white Pacific sand between your toes at the beach!

Finally, it’s time to head back to San Francisco, exhilarated knowing it was the day to remember!

Wonderful!
Excellent value for money & a beautiful full day exploring & visiting Monterey & Carmel. Danilo the driver/guide was superb, friendly, knowledgeable & attended to the passengers nerds & requests. One couple complained re not stopping at scenic places but this total rubbish as they were just being awkward. Danilo stopped at fantastic places & really went out of his way to e sure everyone had a great day! Thank you kindly Danilo.

We booked this tour because it says we can make a stop at Santa Cruz but on the day of the tour we just passed by it without a stop. But we still enjoyed Monterey, 17-mile scenic drive and Carmel by the Sea.

We joined three of your tours and they are great! Our tour guides are great too! They are Aoka, Phil and Anthony who would even answer my question about sheeps and explain to us what sheeps do to the land. Good job !
