Day 1: Yosemite Tour From San Francisco

Introduction:

Yosemite National Park

Yosemite tours and guided activities are a great way to discover the national park. You can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more. This nearly 2,000-square-mile Central California treasure that was established in 1890 contains giant sequoia trees, spectacular waterfalls, rugged mountains, pristine streams and unparalleled nature scenes. Yosemite National Park stretching through a portion of the Sierra Nevada Mountains welcomes more than 3.7 million people per year for activities such as hiking, camping, rock climbing, fishing, horseback riding, picnicking, skiing and snowboarding. Your Yosemite tour can lead you to Yosemite Falls, Bridalveil Fall, Mirror Lake, Half Dome, El Capitan, Mariposa Grove, Tunnel View and Tuolumne Grove. Join a Yosemite tour and let our professional tour guides bring you to see Half Dome, waterfalls and more in this amazing natural place!

Half Dome

The 4,737-foot granite dome-shaped rock formation of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range is located in California's Yosemite National Park and has metal cables along its side to assist hikers. Half Dome's 8.2-mile Cable Route is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Half Dome's image is featured in many logos and appears on the new California Driver's Licenses as well as a 1988 U.S. postage stamp and a 2005 state quarter. Iconic photographer Ansel Adams took many shots of this landmark in addition to other locations in Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite Falls

The grandiose 2,425-foot waterfall located in California's Yosemite National Park is one of the tallest in the world and consists of the three sections of Upper Yosemite Fall, Middle Cascades and Lower Yosemite Fall. Yosemite Falls' flow varies during the seasons with an interesting snow cone created in the winter at the base of the upper fall. The best views of the park landmark, which is very popular with visitors, are from Yosemite Village and Yosemite Lodge.

El Capitan

The 3,000-foot tall rock formation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains within Yosemite National Park is extremely popular with rock climbers and at one time was thought to be impossible to scale. El Capitan often referred to as "El Cap" was pictured on the 2010 quarter for the "America the Beautiful" collection and is the largest pillar of granite in the world. It is one of the most recognized and popular landmarks in the park. The Spanish name El Capitan is a translated in English to "The Captain" and originated from the Ahwaneechee Native American word for captain.

    Great experience
This trip was a great way to see Yosemite and the giant sequoias. Phil is an excellent guide with a wealth of knowledge and literally saved the day by flipping the order of spots in the park to visit so that what turned out to be a brief foggy patch didn't keep us from seeing the Yosemite Valley from one of the best vantage points.

Highly recommended tour. Definitely worth the money. Verty well organised. The tour guide was extremely knowledgable. Had plenty of free time to explore on your own. The coach was clean. A great day out. A long day but well worth it.

    Definitely worth it!
The trip was very well organized. Our tour guide Calder was very knowledgeable and went out of his way to make this experience as much fun as possible. We were picked up on time from the designated hotels and spent all day traveling, and hiking. There were strategic breaks for food and photos. We were a diverse group of travellers that ended up bonding due to our shared experiences on the trip. I would recommend carrying your own bottle to refill water on the way. I would also suggest carrying some trail mix or snack items, as the queue for food items were really long in the Yosemite Valley. Absolutely loved the experience, would definitely recommend it.

    Q & A

    Search before asking:

Please check Help Center for more information
    Q

What is the best time of year to visit Yosemite Valley?

    2023-05-02 16:24
    A

Each season in Yosemite Valley offers its own advantages. Summer is the best chance for sunny and warm hikes, Fall offers peace and solitude at the popular attractions, Winter means a blanket of snow over all the rock monuments and Spring features the peak of the annual Yosemite Valley waterfall show.

    Q

How can I travel around the park during my free time?

    2023-05-18 16:24
    A

Walking is the best form of transportation in the Valley. We do not recommend public transportation or park shuttles during your free time since you cannot be certain about getting back to the tour vehicle on time. The most popular attractions are a short distance from the drop-off point near Yosemite Valley Lodge.

    Q

Is a day enough time to see Yosemite?

    2023-06-18 16:24
    A

Our incredible 1-day tour to Yosemite from San Francisco visits all the top attractions, like Tunnel View, El Capitan, Half Dome, Bridalveil Fall, Yosemite Falls, and (conditions permitting) the Giant Sequoias. A longer, multi-day tour allows time to enjoy longer hikes, bike riding, swimming in the Merced River, the night’s brilliant stars, and more.

    Q

Are meals included? Can I buy or bring my own?

    2023-06-22 19:00
    A

Meals are not included on this tour. We do make a stop about halfway to and from Yosemite, where you can buy food and beverages. There are a few restaurants and a food court in Yosemite Valley. They are usually crowded, so it’s a good idea to bring or purchase a picnic lunch prior to arriving in the park.

    Q

What do I need to know about the Giant Sequoias hike?

    2023-07-23 16:24
    A

The hike is only available when trail conditions are safe, usually from April to October. The hike is a 2-mile round trip on a paved trail with a steep incline on the return. Individuals with respiratory issues or not used to strenuous exercise may skip the hike and wait in the outdoor seating area at the Tuolumne Grove stop.
